A rich and captivating mid-century abstract painting, executed in oil onto canvas by Swedish painter Hans Osswald (1919-1983), whose works have been exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm, Malmö Museum as well as The Brooklyn Museum.
Created with a masterful technique, the artist has skillfully applied broad brushstrokes as well as layers of paint to build up a raised texture and dimension, adding depth and dynamism to the work.
Warm earthy tones of predominantly shades of brown, orange, and yellow fill the canvas. These colours infuse the artwork with a sense of vitality, evoking the vibrancy of autumn foliage. There are also touches of white, black, and blue that have been strategically revealed to add a sense of balance and to emphasise the surrounding colours. The artist’s bold and confident use of all these hues reinforces the painting’s abstract nature and creates a visual feast for the eyes.
This oil on canvas is housed in a well-suited gilt frame. The painting has scattered areas of light craquelure present, most notably in the upper dark brown section, but the paint layer is overall very stable.
Size: 32 x 58.5 cm (including frame)
