VUTIA: Green Three Stripe Woven Laundry Basket

Robust enough to hold fireside logs and perfect as a woven toy basket, this woven laundry hamper will work hard in any home. Use yours for stashing away rugs, blankets and towels, take it to the beach bag or out on your big food shop – its uses are never-ending. 

Carefully hand woven by a member of a women’s weaving group in rural Kenya, this large laundry hamper has been formed from forty balls of Kenyan sisal grass. The strong leaves of this indigenous plant undergo a long process of harvesting, rolling and dyeing - all performed by hand - before six long days of weaving begin. 

Farming is the backbone of most rural Kenyan families, but as drought persists, basket weaving is an alternative way to earn a safe, sustainable and fair wage. Your purchases enable us to keep this traditional craft alive.
