These true red and white colour block baskets are carefully handwoven in three handy sizes, crafted from sustainably sourced sisal grass by artisan women in rural Kenya. We are proud to partner with weaving groups in several rural corners of Africa, and the women in this particular group are simply brilliant at producing an array of gorgeous colours through meticulous hand dyeing. These women have woven from a young age: the age-old craft of basket weaving is passed along the female line and is being kept alive for future generations thanks to your purchases.
Basket weaving within craft collective such as this empowers women to support their families with a flexible income in the dry seasons, where farming alone becomes unsustainable. When you choose one of our woven baskets you actively support these weavers’ livelihoods, forging our commitment to them.
