As the only female master of the Bauhaus, textile artist Gunta Stölzl is arguably the single most influential figure in the modern history of Western woven art. Under her leadership, the school's weaving workshop was transformed from a neglected department to one of its most successful facilities. During her tenure, she updated the focus from pictorial work to more industrial designs, introducing radical ideas from the world of modern art to weaving, and initiated experiments in materials and methods that helped shift weaving into the modern age.

About CF Editions

Over 30 years ago, artist and designer Christopher Farr set out to unite heritage textile craftsmanship with contemporary design vision. Since then, he and his business partner Matthew Bourne have maintained a dedication to quality and an uncompromising pursuit of beauty that has helped revolutionise rug design and restore rug-making to the status of fine art.

Today, they continue to protect and preserve the world’s weaving traditions, while pushing at the creative possibilities of design. Alongside Christopher’s own work, they collaborate with a considered roster of international artists, architects, fashion designers and other visionaries to produce a selection of designs that remains unrivalled in its creative scope.

CF Editions collaborates with some of the world’s top artists and designers, both past and present, including William Scott, Gary Hume, Sandra Blow, Terry Frost and Anni Albers. Every rug is fabricated to the most exacting standards and delivered with a signed certificate of authenticity. All designs are produced with the relevant institution estate or artist closely involved in the whole process, in the same way as when producing limited edition prints, to ensure that the end result is as faithful to the original work as possible.
